There are many ways to achieve Ministry certification. Some students will achieve success by following a pathway which allows them hands-on experience in the workplace, alongside their classroom studies. For others, a five-year academic program is best. Many of these youth will go on to Vocational Training or to CEGEP and University.

Program information

The Work-Oriented Training Pathway (WOTP) is a one-year program during which students spend three days per week in class and two days in a work-study program .Some possible work-study scenarios involve: learning how to fix and maintain bikes; working in a hardware store or retail environment; working in a community centre or after-school program; developing food preparation skills in a restaurant setting and lots more!

Academic Information

Academics focus on English, French and Math, as well as a life skills course; Preparation for the Job Market.

Course Breakdown hourly requirement
English 200 hrs
Math 150 hrs
French 100 hrs
Preparation for the Job Market 75 hrs
Stage Placement 375 hrs

WOTP Eligibility

To be eligibile for the program the student must meet the following requirements:

  • 15 years of age or older
  • Interview with school administration
  • Academic requirements are looked at on a case-by-case basis.

What's next after WOTP?

Upon completion of the year in WOTP, students may choose to return to a regular high school program, although they may opt for direct entry into the job market. Whatever the choice, our students move forward having the sense of achievement that comes with acquiring Ministry certification. They develop greater maturity as well as a wealth of experience, leaving them better prepared for their future endeavors.
