A Message from the Principal
Dear parents,
Carlyle's request for candidate status has been officially granted by IB Americas on April 30, 2010. We are pursuing authorization as an IB World School. This indicates that Carlyle school is committed to sharing a common IB-PYP philosophy which offers a high quality, challenging and InternationaI Education for the 21st century learning ñ that Carlyle believes is important for our students. At the same time Carlyle must also respect the standards, requirements and assessment practices of the (MELS) Ministère d'Éducation, Sports et Loisirs curriculum. Obtaining candidate status entailed a lot of extra work and time, but it was through the collaboration and vision of the administrator, staff and parents that we were able to achieve our goal. I congratulate the hard work and dedication of all members of our team!
Creating an IB school is about offering our students a curriculum with Internationally meaningful content while also addressing local and community matters. The emphasis is upon "learning how to learn or learning by doing" and collaborative learning. This is accomplished through meaningful inquiry-based projects. These projects are similar to what the teachers are already doing, but with an emphasis on global awareness and the skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to participate in our global society.
Please note on page 13 of this agenda that our new code of conduct called "Essential Agreements" reflects this IB Philosophy. An IB program is about developing people with the following skills and attitudes. Please join us in our efforts to develop your child so that she/he is:
| An Inquirer | asking profound questions, inquires and is curious |
| Knowledgeable | exploring and trying to understand our world |
| A Thinker | approaching problems with creativity and critical thinking |
| A Communicator | expresses ideas confidently and in more than one language |
| Principled | acting with honesty, fairness, justice, and make good choices |
| Open-minded | open to new possibilities, values and perspectives |
| Caring | helping to make this world a better and more peaceful place |
| A Risk-taker | courageous and able to approach new situations |
| Balanced | working to achieve physical, emotional and social well-being |
| Reflective | thoughtful about where he/she wants to be within a global world |
