Montreal's Watching CTV

History and overview of Campaign:
In 2001, CTV Montreal started the CTV Community Action Project. This project was created to address the poverty situation in Montreal. Recognizing that poverty is the most pressing problem in the Montreal area, CTV Montreal was determined to get the message out creating a channel to facilitate the proceeds in which donors can reach recipients.

One of the examples in which this was done, was by directing calls from someone who wanted to help through our Contact 12 system to the appropriate organization in their area.

Thus, we recruited 6 charities that were placed under the CTV Community Action wing. They are: Share The Warmth, West Island Assistance Fund, Renaissance Montreal, Multicaf, Parc Extension Share Store, and most recently, Le Bon Dieu Dans La Rue.

One of our projects under the Community Action Umbrella is the CTV Spirit of Giving Holiday Season Campaign, which takes place during the Holiday Season. Our goal is to funnel donations from companies all over Montreal to our six charities. We do this by placing our Spirit of Giving donation boxes in offices, stores, establishments, etc...We ask that employees fill the boxes up with non-perishable food items, clothing and toys. We also run a TV Spot increasing awareness about our mission and inviting everyone to participant by calling Contact 12 to ask for Spirit of Giving Boxes. We send boxes to your establishment and pick them up at the end of the campaign in December. About two weeks before Christmas, we pick up all the boxes, sort out all the donated items, and distribute them evenly within the six charities.

Proposed Idea for the 2009 Holiday Season in regards to Spirit of Giving
CTV Montreal would like to involve the schools and students of the EMSB School board in the high profile 2009 Holiday Campaign for Spirit of Giving. It has already been confirmed with Spiritual & Community Animator, Mr. Vince Lacroce, that his High school would be involved in the sorting of donated items. Spirit of Giving boxes will be placed in all of the participating schools and students will be encouraged to bring in items and place them in the boxes. A display will also be created by CTV with posters and boxes demonstrating the project wherever possible inside the schools.

Some EMSB schools will have an opportunity to be featured in a CTV Local News Report during December 4-11th as they feature their exceptional fundraising efforts in regards to the Spirit of Giving. This can be anything from an afternoon concert, Soccer match between Teachers and students, art exhibition, dance party, or movie night. Admission to attend these activities would be an item (Non-perishable good, Clothing, new toys) for the Spirit of Giving.

Schools who are interested in being featured on a CTV Local News Report must contact Mr. Vince Lacroce, Spiritual & Community Animator, at 514-483-7200 ext. 5365 or via email at vlacroce@emsb.qc.ca. CTV Montreal will make the final decision on which school will be featured. All participating EMSB Schools as well as the EMSB will be thanked for their fantastic effort for this important cause.

Sorting of Goods, Deposit and Pick up
Laurier Macdonald High School has agreed to be the central hub for the deposit, sorting and pick up of all donations. We will be using the Spiritual Community Center as a storage space. The CTV Spirit of Giving Boxes will be brought to Laurier from all participating schools and companies. Items will be sorted out here from the high school students and the charities will be picking up their packed boxes from Laurier as well.

This project will be closely controlled and coordinated by Chris Hardt, the Coordinator for Sales and Promotions. No extra time or effort is expected from the school. The only thing needed is their cooperation.

This sorting and pick up process will only take place for 7 days, from December 4th to December 12th. A timeline will be created with further details and with the involvement of the principal, Ms. Eileen Kelly, in regards to the deposit, sorting and pick up.

CTV Local News may also want to send a camera during one of the sorting sessions to capture the images and transmit them on the six o'clock News.
