A.C.E. Committee

The ACE Foundation was formed as a distinct entity from Carlyle Elementary School:

  • To establish a long-term and growing endowment through fundraising that will provide a continuing and sustainable source of support for projects to enrich the learning experience of all Carlyle Elementary School students;
  • To provide students with additional learning opportunities;
  • To supplement existing school programmes in areas such as science, music, art, languages and physical education, including the establishment of a IB programme;
  • To institute new programmes that fall outside government funding formulas in areas such as special assistance, enrichment for gifted students, computer sciences, and drama;
  • To increase financial support for core resources that benefit all students;
  • To continue Carlyle Elementary School’s role as an innovative school that has been a leader in educational reform and reach out to fill a need within the community at large; and
  • To strengthen relations with alumni and to provide them with a tangible platform to express their pride in Carlyle Elementary School.

The initial goal of the Foundation is to raise $100,000 by September 2010. The longer term goal is to establish an endowment fund of at least $1 million.

The ACE Foundation is financially independent to Carlyle Elementary School, to the English Montreal School Board and to the Quebec Ministry of Education. To help support this initiative at Carlyle School, the ACE Foundation must find its funding from organizations that are of like-mindedness and that adhere to our principles.

Benefits of the ACE Foundation

  • Funding by the Foundation will improve the learning experience and environment for all children attending the school.
  • ncreased opportunities for children will help continue to solidify Carlyle Elementary School’s reputation as a culturally welcoming, rich and diverse community, providing safe, enjoyable and inspiring learning environment for all students.
  • The Foundation will strengthen Carlyle Elementary School’s standing as a top public school by attracting top teachers and administrators.
  • The Foundation has the flexibility to provide resources for innovative or urgently-needed programming without waiting for changes in existing government funding formulas because the Foundation’s funds are separate from Carlyle Elementary School, the English Montreal School Board and the Québec Ministry of Education.

Why does Carlyle Elementary School need funds?

People often assume that Carlyle Elementary School must be wealthy because it is located in the heart of the Town of Mount Royal. The truth is very different for the following reasons:

  • Carlyle Elementary School, similar to every publicly-funded school, must work within the current educational environment of declining funding and increasing class sizes;
  • The overwhelming majority of students Carlyle Elementary School come by bus from outside the community’s boundaries, and this in every direction despite the school being in the heart of the Town of Mount Royal;
  • Carlyle Elementary School’s students include many children from new Canadian families as well as a substantial number of children that require significant one-on-one help to meet educational standards (in fact, Carlyle Elementary School is well known for its proficiency in this area); and
  • Carlyle Elementary School has been designated an inner-city school for well over the last decade.
Carlyle Elementary School has always prided itself on being more than just another public school. In the face of today’s challenges, it is Carlyle Elementary School’s goal of continuing its tradition of providing the best possible programmes and environment to meet the needs of the students who study here, to equip, shape and assist them in becoming strong leaders of tomorrow.
