Governance
Chairperson’s Message
On behalf of the governing board, I would like to express my pride in the achievements of the
students at Carlyle Elementary School. In addition to our annual scholastic activities, fundraisers,
sports tournaments, and special field trips, a drama production entitled Folktales from Around the
World was staged on June 18, 2009 at the École secondaire Mont-Royal auditorium. The Carlyle
staff continues to be very active in their journey towards the International Baccalaureate-Primary
Years Programme with several IB workshops attended throughout the year. The school was
assigned an IB coordinator and a formal letter of intent was mailed to the IBO expressing our
commitment to become a recognised International School. The International philosophy is
becoming a part of the students’ everyday language and thought process. The school as a whole
also was very keen on its new Balanced Literacy approach to learning language. The ACE
Foundation appointed five directors to its board and sent an application to the Canada Revenue
Agency to be a recognized charity. An exceptional relationship was forged with the Town of
Mount Royal community (TMR) through intergenerational activities. Community-minded
endeavours between Carlyle students and TMR senior citizens, such as a Georgie Production
play, teas and curling lessons, were jointly enjoyable. A unique collaboration between the
Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and Carlyle Elementary School culminated in a vernissage at the
Museum displaying the students’ artwork for a period of three weeks in the spring. With a new
academic year in full force, the Carlyle family is striving to excel and give the students a world of
opportunities.
Respectfully,
Daniella Rohan, Chairperson
Carlyle Elementary School Governing Board
