General Information

The Resource teachers provide learning and emotional support to at-risk students. They do so by patiently focusing on their strengths and weaknesses and providing at-risk students with the comfort of knowing that they have the support needed to achieve their potential vis-à-vis their peers.

Nutrition (Breakfast) Program

The breakfast program provides both nutrition and an opportunity for the students to develop social skills. It helps them to start off the day in a positive way.

Lunch Program

Lunch hour supervision is provided for all students staying for lunch. The yearly fee is: $180.00 per child.

Computer Program

The computer program provides the systematic teaching of computer skills and processes that allow students to integrate technology awareness with regular classroom activities. Children learn keyboarding skills as well as research, organization and layout techniques required to generate a finished product. The program is funded primarily by ICOR.

Multicultural Program

Carlyle supports its multicultural diversity by actively encouraging respect and appreciation for ethnic similarities and differences.

Field Trips

School field trips are selected by each teacher to bring the curriculum beyond the classroom. Examples of typical outings are: apple picking, concerts at Place des Arts, Ecomuseum, the Insectarium, the Biodome, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and Camp Edphy.

Since class trips are generally selected to broaden and enrich the learning experience, all children are encouraged to participate. Parents are notified in sufficient time to return written permission forms that are required so that a child will be permitted to go on the outing. Cost for outings is borne by the parents and is often partially subsidized by the school. Parent volunteers are usually asked to assist with supervision so that a safe pupil-adult ratio is maintained.

After-School Homework Assistance Program

Being an inner-city school, Carlyle receives special funding from ICOR for the After-School Assistance Program. It helps the students complete their homework under the supervision of tutors. It also provides assistance in the development of their study skills.

Parent Involvement

Parent participation and support has always been very helpful to Carlyle. Members of our Parent Participation Organization (PPO) organize regular soup and pizza days and extra-curricular activities. Parents serve as volunteers in the classroom, in the library and on field trips. Active fundraising organized by parents makes possible to enhance various programs. The Carlyle parents form an important part of the Carlyle family.
