Let it Snow x3

Mr. J. Wright - Nov. 21st, 2016

snow1It is good practice to have your child leave a pair of indoor shoes at the school to change into from their outdoor boots. Boots are not appropriate footwear for the entire school day. Furthermore, the children do enjoy playing in the snow. Snow pants will ensure that they will stay warm and dry for the afternoon classes (as will appropriate gloves, hats and scarves). As a policy at all schools, the practice of throwing snowballs is not permitted. If students are in school, they are expected to be dressed appropriately to be able to play outside.

P.S. Having an extra pair of socks at school or in their bag is ALWAYS a good idea.
From the EMSB: In the event of a school closure due to poor weather, we immediately post this news on our Twitter feed @Englishmtl

All Hallow's Eve

Mr. J. Wright - Oct. 27th, 2016

Monday, October 31st, 2016 will be the Dalkeith Halloween Celebration Day. Many children will choose to come into school in costume, for this reason, it is important to note a few important guidelines...

Concerning Costume Themes:
Sensibility and good taste are the order of the day. As such, violent or suggestive themed costumes should be considered inappropriate (no swords, guns, etc will be permitted).

Concerning Make-up vs. Masks:
Face paint and make-up is always the safest choice when choosing a costume (visibility is not impeded). However, if you choose to send your child in with a mask understand that they will NOT be permitted to wear the mask during the school day.

Concerning Halloween Activities at the School:
Many of the teachers and members of the P.P.O. have organized some fun activities for the students to participate throughout the day of the 31st.

Concerning Candy and Treats in the days following Halloween:
The P.P.O. have received donations (thank you again!!) such that every student will be going home with a small loot bag that day. Like the candy they receive on Halloween night, the students are not to open this loot bag until they are home with you. (Please Note: all treats are peanut free).
In the days following Halloween please verify your child’s lunch to ensure that they are not packing their own “SUPPLEMENTS”. One or two peanut free treats are fine, but the children should not be making a meal of them.

Annual Thanksgiving Lunch

Mr. J. Wright - Sept. 28th, 2016

We are going to have our Dalkeith Thanksgiving lunch on Friday, October 7th, 2016 at no cost to the students. (Click for Menu) We will be providing a hot turkey lunch to all students and staff and we will be eating as a school together in the gym.  The school will be paying for this lunch, however, we are asking that all students bring two non-perishable food items to help begin our Holiday Food Drive in exchange;    therefore, please DO NOT send your child to school with a lunch, unless s/he has food allergies.  However, a snack for recess would still be a good idea. Other than the lunch Friday, it is a regular school day so the students should be in full dress code. It is not a dress down day.

Monday, October 10th, 2016: Thanksgiving Monday, No School. Have a safe long weekend.

Carnival

Mr. J. Wright - June 17th, 2016

Dear Parents / Guardians of Dalkeith,

As you know Monday June 20, 2016 is our Carnival.  There will be outdoor games all day long including some involving water (sprinklers) so a towel and a change of clothing is recommended (You may choose to send them in with a bathing suit to CHANGE INTO should you wish).

Please note the Dalkeith Gym shirt is the ideal top for Carnival. We still have a few in stock in most sizes should you wish to purchase one please fill in the coupon on the note sent home and send it in with your $10.00 .

A lunch of hot dogs and juice will be provided (and a few other surprizes).  Should your child not care for this or has any allergies please provide his/her lunch as the last day of cafeteria service was today.

The forecast is for hot sunny skies, therefore sunscreen (applied in the morning at home) and hats are a must.

*** There is NO EXTRA COST FOR THIS ACTIVITY unless you are purchasing a T-shirt

Warmer Day Reminders

Mr. J. Wright - May 31st, 2016

sunJust some quick reminders as it begins to feel like summer.

Refillable water bottles (With your child’s name) are permitted. These are to be filled with water only and powdered mixes are to be avoided.
The Dalkeith Gym shirt is for gym. It should not be considered a regular substitute for the polo top. Remember, a plain white T-shirt is perfectly acceptable in the warmer weather.

“Flip Flops” are great to keep cool but are NOT appropriate for running in the schoolyard nor for the hallways or stairs. Proper footwear should be considered before sending the students in in the morning.

Please feel free to apply sunscreen on at home (Minimum Recommended SPF is 30) before they come into school. It should be noted that the “spray on” sunscreens are not considered to be the best as fumes that are inhaled are not at all healthy. Unfortunately, the staff cannot re-apply the lotion prior to going out nor should the younger students be permitted to apply it themselves (exception: carnival day).

Remember, anything Blue, White or Red is appropriate, you do not need to run out and buy a jersey or t-shirt if you don’t want to. (Disclaimer:This is meant to be in good fun and with sportsmanship in mind, if you are supporting the “other team” you can wear their jersey… we are certain the students will console them after every loss).

Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!
Mr. J. Wright - November 26, 2013

It is good practice to have your child leave a pair of indoor shoes at the school to change into from their outdoor boots.

P.S. Having an extra pair of socks at school or in their bag is ALWAYS a good idea.

From the EMSB: In the event of a school closure due to poor weather, we immediately post this news on our Twitter feed @Englishmtl

All Hallows’ Eve Celebrations
Mr. J. Wright - October 29, 2013 Updated November 1, 2013

A big thank you to all the parents for your help in making the celebration as wonderful as it was. We cannot do it with out you! The students (and staff) had a great afternoon thanks to you all.

Thursday, October 31st, 2013 Dalkeith will be having our Halloween Celebrations. Many children will choose to come into school in costume, so it is important to note a few important guidelines...

Sensibility and good taste are the order of the day. As such, violent or suggestive themed costumes should be considered inappropriate (no swords, guns, etc. will be permitted).

Face paint and make-up are always the safest choice when choosing a costume (visibility is not impeded). However, if you choose to send your child in with a mask, understand that they will NOT be permitted to wear the mask during the school day.

Click here for a copy of the letter sent home.

First House Milestone Achieved!!!
Mr. J. Wright - October 23, 2013

Congratulations to ALL STUDENTS IN EVERY HOUSE! Your hard work and has resulted in everyone getting the first house reward, a dress down day in your house colours.
Friday, October 25th will be the dress down day. You asked to come to school dressed with an article of clothing in the colour of their house team. The article of clothing could be a red T-Shirt, a green scarf, blue shoes, yellow socks etc. Simply one article of clothing of their house team (they do not have to come in dressed in red from head to toe, but they could if they wanted to)

Annual Thanksgiving Lunch in the Gym
Mr. J. Wright - October 10, 2013

Just a quick little reminder: We are going to have our Dalkeith Thanksgiving lunch on Friday, October 11th, 2013. We will be providing a hot turkey lunch to all students and staff and we will be eating as a school together in the gym.  The school will be paying for this lunch, however, we are asking that all students bring one or two non-perishable food items to help begin our Holiday Food Drive in exchange;    therefore, please DO NOT send your child to school with a lunch, unless s/he has food allergies.  However, a snack for recess would still be a good idea. Other than the lunch Friday, it is a regular school day so the students should be in full dress code. It is not a dress down day.

Monday, October 14th, 2013: Thanksgiving Monday, No School. Have a safe long weekend.

On behalf of ALL the students, A HUGE THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

to everyone who helped to make the 2013 Dalkeith Year-end Carnival the success it was.

CARNIVAL CLARIFICATION
Mr. J. Wright - June 18, 2013

Unfortunately, some conflicting information went home in regards to carnival. The students should be dressed to PLAY OUTSIDE and it would be a good idea to have a change of clothes. It does NOT need to be dress code but should be sensible for the type of day tomorrow is.

A towel, sunscreen and a hat would also be prudent choices.

An audimated call scheduled for 7:00 pm tonight reiterates the above

sorry for any confusion
