FUTURE ADULT LEARNERS BENEFIT FROM REGISTRATION FEE GIFTS AT GALILEO ADULT EDUCATION CENTRE

MONTREAL, JUNE 15, 2012 –   Four literacy students from the  Galileo Adult  Education Centre in Montreal North, and one teacher, have joined forces to hold their very first end of the year raffle to help “pay-it-forward” for future learners.

Each student has donated $30 out of their own pocket to help cover the cost of next year's registration fee for five randomly selected winners. The idea was thought up by a student from teacher Lisa Trotto's evening class, Salah Touafdit, as a gesture to demonstrate his appreciation to teachers and administrators for how much he has learned since his first enrollment at the school one year and a half ago. "My English has improved so much thanks to the dedicated staff and fellow classmates so I want to pass it on," says the student.

And indeed, the generosity of Mr. Touafdit has encouraged his evening teacher, as well as three other classmates - Moncef Yahia-Cherif, Hiam Berri, and Hassan Fares -  to partake in the fun.

The raffle was held at the school's end of the year BBQ celebration on  June 13.  Anyone who attended the feast, which included food, music, and lots of dancing, was eligible to win. Tickets were distributed among 300 students at the start of the evening and later hand-picked by none other than the school's Principal,   Angela Monteferrante Orsi. The five lucky winners who were selected to receive one free semester at Galileo Adult Centre  were all smiles upon hearing the news that they had been chosen to receive free education as a result of their classmates' generosity and kindness.
