MONTREAL, OCTOBER 28, 2012 –  More than 800 students from the English Montreal School Board will be in attendance on Friday, November 2 (10:30 a.m.) at McGill University’s McConnell Winter Stadium (3883 University) for an Ontario University Athletics (OUA) regular season game between the defending national champion Redmen and York University.

This special daytime game is part of the Score with School Program, coordinated by Rooths Sports and Martin Routhier. He is a former McGill team captain. Over the course of the season McGill players will be visiting EMSB schools, emphasizing the importance of staying in school and getting a university education. At the game itself there will be motivational speeches, with a reminder that someone can be an elite athlete and  maintain good grades at the same time.

Former Montreal Canadiens forward Mathieu Darche, a one-time star player for the Redmen, is  an ambassador for the Score with School Program. He is expected to be in attendance at the game. A number of other NHL players and coaches  may be on on hand as well.

The Redmen are coming off an outstanding season in which they captured University Cup, emblematic of Canadian Interuniversity Sports (CIS)  supremacy and had an overall record of 32-12-1.

The November 2 game will be treated as a pedagogical field trip. The EMSB has participated in such programs over the past several years with Rooths Sports, McGill and the former Montreal Juniors. Students from LaurenHill Academy in St. Laurent, John Paul I Junior High School in St, Léonard, Perspectives I and II and John F. Kennedy High Schools  in St. Michel, Elizabeth Ballantyne Elementary School in Montreal West, John Caboto Academy in Ahuntsic and Lester B. Pearson High School in Montreal North.  Grade 10 LaurenHill Academy student Adam Farahat will sing O Canada.  He is part of the school’s upcoming production of  South Pacific, set to run on December 14 and 15.
