EMSB STUDENTS ENJOY ENCOUNTERS WITH CANADA EXPERIENCE

MONTREAL, APRIL 17, 2013- Canada’s largest youth forum has played host to 26 students from across the English Montreal School Board thus far this year. The teens have each spent a week at Encounters with Canada in Ottawa, taking part in bilingual citizenship, leadership and career-exploration activities.

Participants attended workshops, presentations and excursions related to the theme week of their choice, such as Medicine & Health, Sports & Fitness, Science & Technology, Journalism & Communications and Law, to name just a few.

“My time spent at the Terry Fox Centre in Ottawa was life-changing for me,” says Donna-Lee Brown of Options II Alternative High Schol, who attended an Arts & Culture Week. “Not only did I enjoy the time with my fellow Encounters [participants], but I also took part in many exciting workshops that gave me the chance to broaden my horizons. I wish that every high school student would be able to attend.”

Encounters with Canada is open to all students aged 14 to 17, and approximately 130 from across the country take part each week. The EMSB offers subsidies for two students per school (maximum 20), and additional students may also register.
