MONTREAL, MAY 9,  2013-  On Friday, May 10 (11 a.m.) Laurier Macdonald High School (7355 Viau) in St. Léonard, in collaboration with the Canadian Cancer Society, will be shaving the heads of two Secondary V students, Marco Vescio and Anders D’Avirro, with the help of the hairdressing team at the Laurier Macdonald Career Centre

Anders D’Avirro has been growing his hair for an entire year just for this event. His uncle   lost a battle with stomach cancer and he will be honouring him with this symbolic gesture. The school will also be raffling off an autographed Carey Price jersey and will dedicate a ceramic tiled wall in the Spiritual Community Centre for Christian Gavard, a former teacher at Laurier Macdonald who passed away from cancer in 2012.
“This will be our third collaboration with the Canadian Cancer Society,” said Spiritual Community Animator Vince Lacroce.

This much-anticipated community fundraiser was coordinated by Laurier Macdonald students, under the supervision of Mr. Lacroce. He has done so for five years, during which time  over $200,000 has been raised. Laurier Macdonald’s 2011 Relay for Life (Cancer Walk) set a record for Quebec and Canadian senior high schools (Secondary III to V) by raising more than $98,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society. Mr. Lacroce wishes to extend a special thank you to the organizing committee, Tilmar Ceramics, Melissa Miscione and the tireless effort by the students and staff members for a fantastic and memorable event.
