MONTREAL, JUNE 18, 2013 From the first teacher to walk the halls at St. Dorothy Elementary School to the generations of alumni and throngs of current students, individuals, young and old, flocked home to St. Michel recently to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their community school.

Its nostalgic to come back, said Teresa Buttino, the first secretary to call St. Dorothy home. I have such great memories and Im happy that Im part of this. I came back when St. Dorothy celebrated the 25th anniversary and I am delighted and privileged to celebrate the 50th anniversary.

The afternoon-long festivities included a B.B.Q as well as plenty of activities for the children, such as a magician, balloons, inflatable playgrounds, a jewelry making workshop and a deejay. Additionally, alumni were able to view a slideshow of memories in the gym as well as the walls were dotted with a timeline highlighting the 50 years of St. Dorothy.

Its like yesterday that I was teaching here, this is a real family reunion, its wonderful, said Pat Boroday-Saroli, a teacher from 1963-1970. Finally the school made it to 50!

My fondest memory has to be the KaBOOM! playground build in August 2010, said Rosetta Perri, principal of St. Dorothy. It was a very energizing experience because we had the whole community involved to create the playground. It was an amazing Saturday where, with the help of so many, were able to create a lasting piece of our schoolyard which has been enjoyed by so many.

Perhaps the most poignant display was the family trees put together by Louise Hamelins Cycle 1 classes. Students were asked to put together a tree documenting their family members who attended the school over the past five decades.

Eleven members of my family came here before me, said Bianca, a Grade 2 student. Its cool that they came here, they are all very proud of the school and Im proud that Im coming here too.
