LAURIER MACDONALD CAREER CENTRE TO REOPEN ON FRIDAY

MONTREAL, NOVEMBER 13,  2013-   The Laurier Macdonald Career Centre  in St. Léonard will reopen to students  on Friday, November 15.

Santé publique officials have been investigating some isolated incidents of skin irritations among staff and students. They visited the Centre last Friday and they believe that the cause of the skin irritations were neither environmental nor airborne.  Nonetheless, further testing has been recommended.

Over the course of the last few days they proceeded to meet with and examine the affected employees and students in order to try and get a better idea of the cause of the skin rashes and what needed to be done. While no definitive cause has been determined, Santé Publique is recommending that  the surfaces in certain areas of the centre be thoroughly cleaned.

The English Montreal School Board and the Adult Education and Vocational Services administration decided to take the most prudent course of action in responding to this situation in the best interest of the health and safety of its students and staff.  There was no medical reason to close the Centre. This was done for operational reasons.

Staff will return to work on Thursday. Santé Publique officials will meet with staff  and students on Friday before classes resume.

EMSB Director General Robert Stocker emphasized that this closure did not impact upon the adjoining Laurier Macdonald High School, as both institutions run as independent units

Laurier Macdonald Career Centre offers courses in aesthetics, hairdressing, electrolysis, automobile mechanics and sales of mechanical parts and accessories.
