MONTREAL, DECEMBER 10, 2013 –  Members of the Saputo Cycling Team visited Dalkeith Elementary School in Anjou  recently to present a donation of $8,866.50.

The funds were raised during the fifth edition of the Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie, a 60 hour 1,000 km cycling marathon from Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean to Montreal.  Teams partner with schools across the province to promote healthy life habits for young people and raise awareness and funds for rare hereditary disease research.

Partner schools participate in the event by entering the “Get Up and Move” contest, collecting energy cubes in exchange for physical activity.

Saputo team members Louise Fortier, Braunyno Belo and Luc Savoie  visited Dalkeith to deliver the cheque in person before a general school assembly presided over by Principal John Wright. They showed their appreciation by high-fives and handshakes to the team members. During the month of May, Dalkeith students collected over 19,200 energy cubes totalling over 288,000 minutes of physical activity.

Over 200 teams from cities and towns all over Quebec participated in this major event last June and raised over 1.4 million dollars through the school sponsorship program.  Saputo’s 10-person cycling team raised a total of $35,466 for their partner schools.

The sixth annual Grand défi Pierre Lavoie will take place on June 13-15, 2014.  You can learn more about the event by visiting their website at
