CORONATION SCHOOL STUDENTS READY FOR LIVE RADIO BROADCAST ON WED. APRIL 3

MONTREAl, April 2, 2002- Coronation Elementary School in Côte des Neiges will present five hours of radio programming to be broadcast on Radio Centre-Ville (102.3 FM) on Wednesday, April 3 (9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.) and Sunday, April 14 (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.).

This is part of a Ministry of Education project involving a number of schools in the province. Coronation is the only English school participating. Radio Coronation will broadcast in English, French, and Tamil. Material will include interviews, songs, plays, poems, trivia games and jokes. The school’s very own Steel Pan Band and the Staff/Parent Choir will present musical numbers.

Work began on this project several months ago. In addition to serving as hosts, students have been trained to act as technicians and operate the microphones and equipment. Principal Diane Wood Nolan says that the project ties in perfectly with Quebec’s new curriculum reform and allows student expression through the use of radio as a form of media. It also promotes multiculturalism, as well as teamwork and cooperation. Students, parents and personnel have all played key roles in getting Radio Coronation on the air.

The project, formally known as "Radio Enfant," is the creation of Michel Delorme. He is a parent at l’école primaire du Grand Boisé in Chelsea, Quebec who launched a radio station there last March. Coronation staff have been consulting with him over the last few months.
