MONTREAL, MAY 2, 2014-   In a sure sign that spring has finally arrived in Montreal, comedian and  actor Joey Elias has once again assembled a cast of talented characters to join him onstage at Club Soda (1225 Saint Laurent Boulevard) on  Wednesday, May 7 for Media Experts’ Evening of Comedy with Joey Elias and Friends.

The third annual edition is once again being held in support of On Our Own (, the Montreal‐based organization providing critical support services and affordable transitional housing for young parents wishing to develop the  skills they need to live independently in our community. The goal of O3 is to build independence, giving families the ability to go out “On Our Own” to live healthy, productive, stable, secure lives and for the parents to provide the best parenting for their children.

O3’s clientele has a direct link to the English Montreal School Board. For this academic year, four children are attending St. Monica Elementary School and another child is at the Mackay Centre School in NDG. Four mothers are enrolled at the Shadd Business and Health Centre in NDG, James Lyng Adult Education Centre in St. Henri and D.E.A.L., a distance education program run by the High School of Montreal Adult Centre.

“Even though our housing is transitional or temporary, our clients tend to form roots in the EMSB district,” said Linda Babins, the executive director of O3. “The reason for this may be the quality of the schools and services offered here. The great location of the CLSC Benny,  means that we, O3, can ensure excellent access to resources while prioritizing education as a goal for our families. The young families  have especially benefited from the St Monica  Pre-K program.”

Among the Montreal‐based comedic talents that Joey Elias has invited to help O3 are Montreal favourites  David Pryde, Jeff Shouela, Chris Venditto and Chantal Desjardins. The full programme of laughs kicks off at  7 p.m.  at Club Soda. Independent media services agency Media Experts has partnered with O3  and Canadian charitable organization, GIVGroups, permitting the public to secure their entry to the show by making a tax‐ deductible donation online.

Created to help boost charitable giving in Canada, GIVGroups is a website where Canadians, companies, foundations and charities come together to support charitable causes. GIVGroups hosts matching gift challenges helping to multiply the good deeds of corporate sponsors with the matching donations of Canadians to increase the value of those donations.
“Crowd funding is an exciting new trend in charitable giving in Canada,” said Woodrow Rosenbaum, Executive  Director of GIV3. “We are very pleased to see Media Experts and O3 taking advantage of our free platform to  raise money and engage donors.”

On the GIVGroups website, people simply select the On Our Own ‐ Media  Experts GIVGroup and make their tax‐deductible donation. The public have only to present the printed receipt of  their minimum donation of $40.00 to be admitted to the comedy benefit on May 7 at Club Soda.

O3 holds information sessions every other month for interested applicants.  Call 514-369-0757 to find out when the next one is being held.
