MONTREAL, MAY 2,  2014 Two English Montreal School Board (EMSB) cabinet making students from Rosemount Technology Centre were finalists in the recent  Chapeau les filles regional competition, recognizing women who have excelled in non-traditional roles in vocational training programs.

Angela Pagano won a $500 cash  prize and will advance to the national  competition in Quebec City on June 9. Natalia Souleimanova is a finalist for a prize at the national level, specifically in the Native and Cultural Communities category.  If she wins, she too will be invited to Quebec City.

“Angie has given a lot of herself to her studies at RTC,”   says teacher Kerry Bullis. “For 16 months, she has continued to demonstrate strong competencies in all of her modules.  She has proven to be dedicated to her attendance and participation.  Angie has worked very hard during her DEP experience to balance school, family, and work.  Within that balance, she demonstrates a great attitude and group leadership on the shop floor.”

While studying full-time and working part-time, Ms. Pagano has been involved in several extra-curricular activities at RTC.  She showed great leadership with two  kitchen installs for Habitat for Humanity, the annual Christmas rocking horse drive, and was a kiosk builder for the 2014 CRC Robotics competition.  “Angie’s work is very much like her personality,” said Mr. Bullis . “positive and steady!”

Ms. Souleimanova  began her program last September 2013 and is expected to complete her training next December.  After obtaining her Bachelor’s degree from Concordia University and working in accounting for several years, she came to the realization that she no longer wanted to work in an office setting.  As she contemplated her future, the dream of making childrens’ toys and furniture dominated her thoughts, and she decided to change her career path.  She registered in the cabinet making program and is thriving in her new training at RTC.
