MONTREAL, May 1, 2015 The English Montreal School Board (EMSB) Before and After School Enriched (B.A.S.E) Daycare Program will be celebrating Daycare Week from May 11 to May 15, with its seventh annual creative arts festival.

The theme for this year is Always Shining Brightly! Put on in collaboration with the Association des services de garde en milieu scolaire du Quebec (ASGEMSQ), this creative arts festival will showcase the six educational cores (Homework & Snack, Physical Activity, Environmental Consciousness, Media Awareness, Creative Arts, and Specialty Programs) of the B.A.S.E Daycare Program through various performances and exhibits taking place at the School Board and various daycares.

B.A.S.E students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 6 have worked diligently since October 2014 to show off their new learned skills and live performances at this festival. The students executed all projects from conception to finished products. A total of 15 daycares are taking part in this year’s Daycare Week festivities.

On Monday, May 11, 2015 the Physical Activity and Environmental Consciousness educational cores are being celebrated. A Hip Hop Dance Show will take place at Cedarcrest Elementary School (1505 Muir Street, 10:00 am 12:00 pm) and a Seedling Sale, Sprouting Station and Composting Demonstration will be exhibited at the School Board (6000 Fielding Avenue, 11:30 am 1:00 pm).

On Tuesday, May 12, 2015 the B.A.S.E. Daycare Program will be hosting its second-annual Destination Imagination competition at Michelangelo International School (9360, 5th Avenue, 10:00 am to 12:00 pm), in celebration of its Specialty Programs educational core. Five teams from four daycares will face off for an Instant Challenge as well as perform short plays under the theme of “Feary Tales.”

Wednesday May 13, 2015 is Daycare Staff Appreciation Day. Local artist Sylvia Garland and B.A.S.E. students will unveil a sculpture project at the School Board (6000 Fielding Avenue, 10:00 am). The B.A.S.E. Daycare Program will also host a Glee Club Music Show at St. Monica Elementary School (6440 Terrebonne Street, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm). Both events will honor the Creative Arts educational core of the B.A.S.E. Daycare Program.

On Thursday, May 14, 2015 students from St. Raphael Elementary School will showcase their cooking skills as they dish up veggie tacos with mango salsa, pico de gallo and chimichurri sauce for EMSB Head Office (6000 Fielding Avenue, 12:00 pm 1:00 pm). This event will acknowledge the Homework & Snack Educational Core of the B.A.S.E. Daycare Program.

On Friday, May 15, 2015 John Caboto Academy and Hampstead School Daycare students will come together for a soccer festival. The event will be held at John Caboto Academy (8955 Meunier Street, 10:00 am2:30 pm). Meanwhile, in honour of the Media Awareness Educational Core, a Photojournalism and Newspaper Exhibit will be on display at the School Board (6000 Fielding Avenue).

There are 29 daycares in the EMSB. More than 3,000 students participate in the B.A.S.E Daycare Program, which is facilitated by 29 B.A.S.E technicians, 200 B.A.S.E educators, several B.A.S.E advisors and approximately 25 B.A.S.E tutors from Concordia and McGill University.
