MONTREAL, JUNE 23, 2004— The English Montreal School Board (EMSB) will hold its first annual Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament on Wednesday, June 30 at the Lachute Golf Club (355 Bethany Road) in Lachute.

Paul Kefalas, the president and CEO of ABB, a Switzerland-based company that specializes in power and automation technologies and operates in over 100 countries, is the honourary chair. Mr. Kefalas has been with the company since 1981, after working as an engineer for Bell Canada and General Electric, and assumed his present role 1994.

Proceeds from the tournament will help establish a new Scholarship Program, which will benefit a number of current students and EMSB graduates, so that they can pursue their post secondary studies in vocational education, CEGEP studies or undergraduate studies. As well, proceeds will go towards the refurbishment and maintenance of the special collection of artwork that adorns the EMSB’s schools, centres and administration building.

The cost for participating is $175 per person, which includes 18 holes of golf (shotgun start, Vegas style), brunch, cocktails and dinner, plenty of fabulous door prizes, plus prizes for longest drive and closest to pin. The deadline for registration is Friday, May 28. A $95 tax receipt will be available for all participants.

As a special promotion, Lexus Toyota Gabriel (, located at 3333 Cote de Liesse in St. Laurent, will award a new car to a golfer who can get a hole-in-one on the 17th hole. Up for grabs will be a Toyota Celica 2004 GT 5 Speed valued at $25,725.00 or a Matrix 2004 5 Speed valued at $20500.00.

The organizing committee is headed by EMSB Deputy Director General Donald A. Reid and includes Nick Katalifos, Mel Pololos, Mario Argiropouilos, Brian Seltmann, Rocco Barbieri, Marvin Helfenbaum, Michael Cohen, James Kromida, Stuart Nulman and Morris Stelcner.
