MONTREAL, OCTOBER 14,  2015-  The 16th annual English Montreal School Board (EMSB) Career Fair  will take place  on Wednesday, October 28 at St. Pius X Career Centre in Ahuntsic (9955 Papineau) for more than 2,000  Secondary IV  students. Jack Dym of Pipe and Piling Supplies Ltd. and RBC Royal Bank are the event’s title sponsors.

Among the special guests will be RBC sponsored athlete Caroline Calvé, an alpine snowboarder who competed for Canada in the last Winter Olympics.  The RBC Olympians program hires both Canadian Olympic and Paralympic athletes as community ambassadors who bring Olympic messages of excellence and leadership to Canadian communities. Athletes are provided with the opportunity to gain valuable skills that will help them prepare for life after sport, while also receiving much-needed funding to help them realize their Olympic and Paralympic dreams.   Calvé is the veteran of the Canadian Alpine Snowboard Team, having competed in the last two Winter Olympic Games in Russia and Vancouver.  She has been competing full time on the World Cup circuit since 2005 and had a breakthrough 2011 season in Carezza, Italy, becoming the first Canadian to win a women’s PGS World Cup event.  RBC will also have three draws for PC/I-pad bags.

Several on air personalities from Global TV will be on hand to talk to students about careers in broadcasting.

From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on October 28, the Career Fair will be open to the community-at-large. Organizers note that this is a good opportunity for parents to attend with their children as they look towards post-secondary education options.

Harriet Cohen from EMSB Adult Education and Vocational Services is the Career Fair chairperson. The Student Services and AEVS Departments of the EMSB  coordinate this  program.  Ms. Cohen notes that the main objective of the Career Fair is to provide students with an in-depth exposure to the various educational opportunities available to them.  All students will take part in a brief   general information session in the St. Pius X auditorium. Students will then have the chance to visit the various exhibition/information booths staffed by representatives from English vocational centres, CEGEPS, universities and some private business colleges.
