AFTER TWO YEARS WITHOUT A HAIRCUT, SIX-YEAR-OLD ROYAL VALE STUDENT TO DONATE HIS HAIR & RAISE FUNDS FOR CANCER

MONTREAL, JUNE 21, 2016 – After two years without a haircut, six year old Cameron Saibil will be shaving and donating his hair on Wednesday morning (10:30) a.m. in front of his friends and family at Royal Vale School (5851 Somerled) in NDG.

Cameron was originally inspired by one of his Kindergarten teachers, who came to school one morning with dramatically shorter hair. The teacher explained to the class that she had donated her hair to a child who had lost theirs to cancer.

“Being a boy, it is not as common to grow your hair and donate it,” said Vanessa Harrar, Cameron’s mother. “He held strong for two years and was determined to se it through. Cameron is a very caring boy who wanted to help somebody else.”

Additionally, Cameron recently started collecting donations for the Canadian Cancer Society. In three days, he has exceeded his $500 goal, raising nearly $700. Donations can be made online here: http://convio.cancer.ca/goto/CameronSaibil

“Cameron endured a lot of teasing from the kids at school for having long hair, he kept growing his hair, determined to help out another child,” added Harrar. “We are thankful to his teacher, Mme Sylvie Levac, who handled the situation wonderfully and used it as an opportunity to sensitize the kids to diversity. The teasing stopped and Cameron has even inspired another boy in his class to grow out his hair for the same purpose.”

To ensure that Cameron’s first haircut in two years goes smoothly, David Devico from Queen of the World Salon will be donating his time and skills tomorrow.
