MONTREAL, MARCH 17, 2017 – In what political pundits are calling an astonishing victory, Rosemount High School teacher Emmanuella Lambropoulos captured the Liberal Party nomination for the federal riding of Saint-Laurent-Cartierville, upsetting former Member of the National Assembly and Quebec cabinet minister Yolande James as well as Mawhra Rizqy.

Ms. Lambropoulos, a lifelong resident of Saint Laurent, attended Gardenview Elementary School and LaurenHill Academy before pursing a career in teaching.

“I feel a lot of pride and that my nomination is a positive message to people that hard work pays off,” said Lambropoulos. “I thought about my students quite a bit during the nomination campaign. I taught them about the nomination and election process as well as I told them that I probably wasn’t going to win, but I was going to try anyways. My message to them was that if you’re determined, you should try no matter what obstacles might be in your way.”

Her actions echoed that message as Ms. Lambropoulos went door-to-door on a nightly basis for the month leading up to the nomination vote.

“I always knew that I had a chance of winning. I brought in over 1,000 members to the party, but when you hear the names of the two candidates, it feels like a real accomplishment,” she added. “Should I win the by-election, I wish to properly represent the people of my riding. I’ve lived in Saint Laurent my whole life. We are a very multicultural community and I hope to work with every member of the community and make it a better place,” she added. “I also wish to get youth involved in politics, making them realize the extent that we can make a difference in the world.”
