MONTREAL, MARCH 27,  2009 -   In recognition of Adult Learners Week, the Adult Education and Vocational Services Department  of the  English Montreal School Board has organized a presentation to adult students featuring former Montreal Canadiens head coach and present-day hockey analyst for RDS Jacques Demers as the guest speaker.  This event will take place on Monday, March 30 (10 a.m.)   at the Giovanni Palatucci Facility/Marymount Adult Centre (5785 Parkhaven) in Côte Saint-Luc.

Despite a very successful career, Mr. Demers had difficulties with reading and writing well into adulthood.  He talks about these challenges in the book that he wrote in 2005.  He is an inspiration to all of us because he has overcome his learning difficulties and continues to lead a successful and fulfilling career.  His story highlights the true essence of lifelong learning, as well as the mission of the AEVS department.

Demers’ 50 minute presentation will be followed by a brief Recognition of Adult Learners ceremony.  The recipients of the certificates are current adult students in our Centres who have displayed qualities such as dedication, motivation, and committment to their program of study.
