MONTREAL, APRIL 10, 2010 – The English Montreal School Board has begun a sustained initiative to increase its presence across the social media spectrum by introducing safe, fun and educational outlets on Facebook and Twitter.

Over the past two weeks, social media officers have visited seven high schools -  Perspectives I and John F. Kennedy in St. Michel,  Vincent Massey Collegiate and Rosemount, Laurier Macdonald in St. Léonard, Westmount  and Lester B. Pearson   in  Montreal North -  in order to introduce students to the EMSB’s presence on Facebook and Twitter.

While students and a growing number of parents, teachers and administration are already well-versed in Facebook and Twitter, the EMSB Communications and Marketing Division is making a strong effort to attract these individuals to the  online community as technology has finally provided a unique opportunity for the school board to continuously interact with the public.
Followers on Facebook and Twitter will have instant access to pertinent information, as well as be provided with easy links to EMSB publications, initiatives and events. Both outlets will also be regularly updated with pictures and videos of various school affairs, visits and projects. Moreover, students will also have the opportunity to participate in fun and exciting contests and promotions. The  online presence will give them the chance to become more socially involved and connect with their peers across the EMSB.

This initiative continues to build upon the EMSB’s goal of being on the cutting age of technology. Recently,   EMSBTV and an EMSB  YouTube channel were introduced.
