MONTREAL, April 27, 2010 –The  third edition of Music Monday will take place on May 3  (1 p.m)  at Hampstead Elementary School (83 Thurlow, Hampstead) and feature an outdoor concert with 175 students from kindergarten to Grade 6.

Originally conceived by the Coalition for Music Education in Canada  to celebrate the power of music and demonstrate the importance of school music programs,  Music Monday has become an annual event featuring synchronized concerts throughout Canada where nearly 2500 schools are united by a single piece of music.

This year, students from across Canada will join together and perform the song “Sing Sing Sing,” written by award winning Canadian country singer Serena Ryder. According to the Coalition for Music Education in Canada, music develops the skills needed for the 21st century workforce. It also helps in the development of critical and analytical thinking, creative problem solving, effective communication, teamwork and more, as well as keeps students engaged in school and reduces likelihood of drop outs as they grow up, improves the overall atmosphere for learning, and is a disciplined human endeavour with an intrinsic value to society.

Hampstead School music teacher Ian Lebofsky looks forward to a successful program. He also hopes for nice weather.
