HEARTS AND MINDS LITERACY PROJECT TO SHOWCASE WORK BY STUDENTS AT GERALD McSHANE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

MONTREA, JUNE 7, 2010- Photo boxes filled with personal writings will be unveiled on June 10 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m at Gerald McShane Elementary School (6111 Maurice Duplessis) in Montreal North before being donated to local institutions throughout the community.

As a way to celebrate students as authors, promote a sense of pride and compassion towards others within the community and continue to foster the importance of literacy within the school, children at Gerald McShane Elementary school embarked on a personal project in September will be unveiled next week.

The children were asked to pick a theme of their choice of which to write pieces in both English and French. With the help of their teachers, students created poems, post cards, letters as well as a plethora of other material to fill a personal wooden photo box which they decorated based on their theme.

Photo boxes will be presented to parents, friends and family before being donated to the patients of Montreal Children’s Hospital, the Shriner’s Hospital, Ste-Justine’s Hospital, the residents of Villa Belle Rive Nursing Home, and to l’Académie Louis Pasteur, a French school in the community.
