EMSB AND ECOSYSTEM CUT ENERGY BILLS OF SIX SCHOOLS NEARLY IN HALF

Repercussion Theatre

MONTREAL, JUNE 18, 2010 – As a part of the English Montreal School Board’s (EMSB) commitment to sustainability and conservation, Ecosystem, an industry leader in energy efficient services, outfitted six schools with technology that has cut their energy bills by 40 percent.

Schools benefitting from this project are Lester B. Pearson High School in Montreal North, Pierre de Coubertin Elementary School in St. Leonard, Royal Vale in Montreal, LaurenHill Senior Campus and the facility which houses (LaurenHill Junior Campus, Fraser Academy and St. Laurent Adult Centre  and James Lyng High School in St. Henri.

The energy savings at the six EMSB institutions amount to an annual reduction of 2,480 tons of green house gasses. This number greatly reduces the EMSB’s carbon footprint and is equivalent to removing 876 cars from the road.

At a number of the six schools Ecosystem optimized the heating network and ventilation, installed more efficient hot water boilers, efficient lighting, heat recovery and geothermal heating and heat pump systems, and centralized control systems. The new equipment is designed to last more than 20 years and its energy savings will cover the overall investment within 10 years.

Ecosystem will be an official sponsor of 2011 Earth Day activities at EMSB schools.
