MONTREAL JUNIORS HOCKEY STARS LOUIS LEBLANC AND JF BERUBE TO VISIT ROSLYN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

MONTREAL, FEBRUARY  2,  2011 – As part of a partnership with the Montreal Juniors hockey team and its Score With Schools program, star forward and Montreal Canadiens draft choice Louis Leblanc  and goaltender Jean-Francois Bérube who belongs to the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings will visit Roslyn Elementary School (4699 Westmount Avenue) on Thursday, February 3 (2:30 p.m.) to talk to students.

Leblanc was the  Canadiens’ first draft choice in 2009.  He spent last year playing at Harvard University, returning home in the summer to join the Juniors when they acquired his rights from Chicoutimi. He is enjoying an excellent season, having stood out for Team Canada during the  Christmas holidays in the World Junior Hockey Championships. Bérube was a walk-on to the team two years ago and was drafted by the Kings in 2008.

EMSB students, staff and commissioners will get to see the Juniors play  twice next week. On Tuesday, February 8 (10:30 a,m.)  more than 1,000 students from  eight schools (St. Gabriel, Rosemount High, Perspectives High, Venture High, Westmount Park, Royal Vale, Elizabeth Ballantyne and Parkdale) will enjoy a unique field trip as the Juniors play one of three regularly scheduled 10:30 a.m. day games. Their opponents will be the Lewiston Maineacs.

On Wednesday, February 9 (7:05 p.m)  the Juniors will host the Halifax Mooseheads. Halifax is coached by former Canadiens star  Bobby Smith. The EMSB has sold more than 1,000 tickets for the game. Melina Catalano, a Secondary V student at Rosemount High School, will sing the natonal anthem. EMSB Chairman Angela Mancini will take part in the ceremonial opening faceoff.
