CARLYLE STUDENTS AND SENIOR CITIZENS SHARE PIZZA AND A PLAY

Repercussion Theatre

MONTREAL, FEBRUARY 16, 2011 – School books disappeared and were replaced by pizza and a play for at least one afternoon recently when students from Carlyle Elementary School in Town of Mount Royal invited a group of senior citizens to forget the winter blues and enjoy some wholesome company and entertainment.

While the welcome break from studying was a bonus, both the children and the seniors truly basked in each other’s company. Songs, stories and various displays highlighting the international persona of Carlyle entertained the seniors as they visited and ate with the students in their classrooms before sitting down together to enjoy Geordie Productions’ rendition of ‘Story Wars’.

Excitement for this event had been building since September,  when planning began with a bean lunch fundraiser to ensure that all costs of the pizza and play would be covered. In addition to the staff and student leaders from Carlyle, the success of the event was due to coordination and hard work by many  individuals, including program coordinator Heather Wallace, senior volunteers Suzette Clement, Rosemary Chabot and Danielle Blanchet from ‘La Table Les Amis des Aines,’ Commandant Desbiens, Nadine Corbet and Flick the mascot from the Police Department (Division 24), Officer Marrata and the Public Security team, as well as Jan Lauer and Gilles Rochette, from the Town of Mount Royal Recreation Department.

Also stopping by to offer her support was Johnana Pardo, the political attaché for Pierre Arcand, the Member of National Assembly for  Mount Royal and Minister of the Environment. With the great success of this intergenerational event, both Carlyle students and TMR senior citizens are looking forward to their next rendezvous when they meet for afternoon tea in April.
