Repercussion Theatre

MONTREAL, APRIL 7, 2011In recognition of Adult Learners Week, the Adult Education and Vocational Services Department  of the  English Montreal School Board has organized a presentation to adult students featuring  Chantal Petitclerc as the guest speaker.  This event will take place on Wednesday, April 27 (10 a.m.) at St Pius X Adult  Education Centre (9955 Papineau) in Ahuntsic.

Despite losing the use of both legs in an accident at the age of 13,  Peticlerc went on to enjoy an extraordinary career in wheelchair athletics. Over her career in wheelchair racing, she  won 21 Paralympic medals, an Olympic gold medal and set numerous records. She is the only Canadian athlete to have won medals at the Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games and is the first female Paralympian to be inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame. Her work outside of racing has been just as impactful. She is a motivational speaker, an Athlete Ambassador for Right To Play, and also a spokesperson for Défi Sport. Recent career highlights include being appointed Companion of the Order of Canada, authoring her first book 16 Days in Beijing aandreceiving a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame .
Petitclerc’s presentation will be followed by a brief Recognition of Adult Learners ceremony.  The recipients of the certificates are current adult students at EMSB centres who have displayed qualities such as dedication, motivation, and commitment to their program of study. They are: Sofia Boudreau, Stephen Croucher, Chantal Waid from the DEAL Program,;  Adebayo Oladipo from St. Pius X Adult Education Centre;  Keziban Kulaksizoglu from  St. Laurent Adult Education Centre;  Dionne Wiles from James Lyng Adult  Education Centre;  Ananou Mawule Edorh from John F. Kennedy Business Centre; Joseph Nicolas Iacovone from Rosemount Technology Centre; Afsa Fisha Amimu from Galileo Adult Education Centre; Vanessa Paiement from Laurier MacDonald Vocational Centre; and Sahouli Abdelkader from Marymount Adult Education Centre.  Mr. Abdelkader also received a $150 bursary.
