MIRROR, MIRROR ON THE WALL: ST. MONICA SET TO WELCOME SNOW WHITE AND SEVEN DWARFS

Repercussion Theatre

MONTREAL, MAY 13, 2011 – For two days only, St. Monica Elementary  School (6440 Terrebonne) in N.D.G is going to allow its students to be Sneezy, Sleepy, Dopey, Happy, Bashful and Grumpy as the charming story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will be performed on Tuesday, May 24 (11 a.m.) for students and on Friday, May 27 (1:30 p.m.) for parents and special guests.

While the bilingual performance has been organized by teachers Nancy Coutu and Linda Saunoris, in addition to an hour of practice daily, the 36 students from Grades 1 and 2 have also had their hands full, playing a role in the construction and painting of the sets, posters and advertising.

“This is going to be a great play and we’re thrilled that the students are being able to learn so much throughout the whole process. They hear stories and music in both English and French and they are really learning their languages in many different ways,” said Coutu. “We’re enjoying this more than the kids, it’s like Broadway!

“Kids that might be struggling in class don’t realize that they’re learning through this experience,” she added. “When they read the script, they think that they’re practicing lines, but really, they’re working on their English and French.”

While the performance on May 24 is reserved for students at St. Monica and nearby Willingdon School, on May 26 one of the special guests in attendance will be former Kindergarten teacher Anna Kelly. She retired this past year and taught all the student actors in her final year at St. Monica School.
