MONTREAL, JUNE 30, 2011 For the second straight year Foresters and KaBOOM! will brighten up the lives of hundreds of children in the English Montreal School Board (EMSB) on August 20th, 2011, by building a playground at Edward Murphy School (6800 Pierre de Coubertin) to be used by children throughout the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve community.

Spearheaded by parent volunteer Laura Saragosa, with the help of Governing Board Chair Mario Bentrovato, PPO Chairperson Pina Cioffi, Spiritual Animator Rocco Speranza, Principal Nancy Richer, Teachers Marie Thibault and Serge Champagne as well as Regional Director Marzia Michielli, the team approached KaBOOM! with their proposal to rejuvenate their community by turning the concrete school yard into a safe and exciting place for children to play.

Like past projects with Foresters and KaBOOM!, hundreds of parents and children at Edward Murphy School have already committed to volunteer for the mid-August build date to ensure the playground’s completion in advance of the 2011-2012 academic year.

While the children are not allowed to physically build their playground, they will be vital in the design process as all their ideas will be gathered up by the project’s design team when it holds its “Design Day” at the school before summer vacation.
The planned playground at Edward Murphy School will be the third of its kind in the EMSB with St. Dorothy s in St. Michel and Edinburgh in Montreal West being home to the other two.

ForestersTM, a life insurance provider committed to the well-being of families, has invested over $2 million with KaBOOM! to build 32 playgrounds across North America since 2006. These playgrounds will eventually serve more than 400,000 children, providing them and their families with a place where they can play, learn and have fun together.

KaBOOM! is a Washington D.C.-based non-profit dedicated to saving play. Because all children deserve to be active and healthy, KaBOOM! works to ensure that every child in North America has a great place to play within walking distance. Since 1996, KaBOOM! has used its innovative community-build model to bring together businesses and communities to construct more than1,900 new places to play across North America.
