MONTREAL, NOVEMBER  30, 2011High School of Montreal  Adult Education Centre Principal Ben Fagan was presented with  Association of Administrators of English Schools of Quebec (AAESQ)  Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his leadership, skills and vision during his tenure in both the youth and adult sectors.

Mr. Fagan has dedicated his life to the education of troubled youth, the physically disabled and visually and hearing impaired students. He began his career in education in 1975 as a teacher at Shawbridge, now known as Mountainview. From there he spent 24 years as a teacher and principal at the Philip E. Layton School for the Blind and Mackay Centre School in NDG. He moved to the High School of Montreal in the Plateau five years ago. Mr. Fagan was also recognized for his work in the community. He is currently the president of the Board of Habitations Tango, a housing project for disabled adults in NDG and is a member of the Board of the Canadian Deafness Institute.

“I was quite honoured that my colleagues were willing to recognize  me for what I’ve done,” said Mr. Fagan, who accepted his award at the AAESQ annual meeting. “We don’t do what we do to get awards, it’s not something we think about, but when it came, I was pretty pleased to be recognized. Education is not a solitary activity and this award is really a reflection of all the wonderful teachers, colleagues, staff, parents and students I have had the good fortune to work with. I can honestly say that I have thoroughly enjoyed all the different jobs I have held.”
