Speciality: Special Care Counsellor
Special care counsellors assess, develop, implement and evaluate goal-directed clinical interventions designed to enhance a person’s quality of life. They work with families, schools, cultural communities and a team of multi-disciplinary professionals. They are employed by schools, residential treatment centers, youth protection services to individuals and families with physical, neurological, psychosocial, mental health and development needs.
Completion of a three-year Special Care Counselling college program is required. And Volunteer work with individuals and/or groups with special needs are an asset and a letter of intent and references must be submitted with the college application. A student interview may be requested. Graduates applying to University should consult with an academic advisor to know the pre-requisites of the program they wish to apply to.
