MONTREAL, DECEMBER 21, 2011 – This holiday season John F. Kennedy High School in St. Michel was busy giving back to the community at the Welcome Hall Mission.
The theme was chosen under the guidance of Principal Joseph Marra, Vice Principal Joseph Vitantonio and Spiritual Animator Frank Lofeodo. Following discussions with staff the theme of “Building a Better Community” was selected to reflect service within the community.
One of the many projects students are involved in is the Welcome Hall Mission Holiday Project. Secondary V students worked at the Welcome Hall Mission packaging thousands of toys and food items for holiday hampers. Students spent several hours over four days in November and December preparing the packages for hundreds of families. On average 4,000 families come to the Welcome Hall Mission for assistance on a monthly basis. Students also worked in the Thrift Shop and toured the facilities to help them understand the scope of need within the community.
As part of this ongoing project JFK hosted Breakfast with Santa for the Secondary V students involved. Santa thanked the students for being an example to others, showing true Christmas Spirit and giving to others in need.
Students will continue their involvement with the Welcome Hall Mission in the new semester.
