MONTREAL, DECEMBER 7, 2011 – Underlining the commitment to academic excellence at the Ahuntsic elementary school, the administration of the English Montreal School Board and the Central Parents Committee have approved the renaming of the institution to John Caboto Academy, effective immediately.
Unique to John Caboto Academy is the school-wide adoption of Dr. Stephen Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People into the daily routine. Dr. Covey’s principles, which are prominently featured on the gymnasium wall, promote self mastery, the ability to work with others and self-rejuvenation is incorporated into all aspects of the curriculum. Additionally, in conjunction with the transition to John Caboto Academy, the school community has also requested an increase in the time allocation for Mathematics and Sciences.
“This is a proud and important achievement for our school. The staff, administration, governing board and community have been working diligently to make John Caboto a vibrant school where respect, self-discipline, dedication, pride and strong academics are top priority. These have been part of John Caboto for a very long time and to finally attain the status that reflects our achievement is rewarding,” said Lucy Buscemi, principal of John Caboto Academy. “Let us then enjoy this milestone and be proud of our accomplishments. Without everyone’s contribution, effort and vision, we would not have been able to relish this well-earned success.”
