MONTREAL, JANUARY 19, 2012 – Continuing a tradition a decade in the making, the English Montreal School Board (EMSB) will be a frequent stop on the Montreal Alouettes’ “Together at School” tour, which is once again sponsored by Canadian National Railway.
From February 1 until the beginning of April, at least eight EMSB schools will receive visits from the Alouettes. On the schedule are: FACE downtown, St. Raphael in Ahuntsic, Mountainview in Cte St. Luc, James Lyng High School in St. Henri, LaurenHill Academy in St. Laurent and Bancroft school in the Plateau.
EMSB schools will welcome the Alouettes in three separate ways: At the elementary level, each two-hour visit includes four to six players who divide themselves up and go into each classroom to speak to the children. All students then congregate in the gym where activities and games are played by the students and the players.
When visiting high schools, each one-hour visit sees one player lead a motivational conference attended by the student body where the player draws on their own personal experiences to inspire those in attendance. The floor is then open for an interactive question and answer session with the player.
For certain schools, the Alouettes have also launched a tutoring initiative. Taking place twice a week, the tutors are volunteer students from local universities and are joined by Alouettes players who provide mentoring, support and leadership to those receiving tutorial aid.
Participating in the 2012 program will be: Luc Brodeur-Jourdain, John Bowman, Anthony Barrette, Martin Bédard, Josh Bourke, Tad Crawford, Dahrran Deidrick, Éric Deslauriers, Danny Desriveaux, Shea Emry, Diamond Ferri, Scott Flory, Chima Ihekwoaba, Ramon Guzman, Kristian Matte and Anwar Stewart.
