MONTREAL, JANUARY 19, 2012 – With her younger sister serving as her inspiration, Laurier Macdonald High School student Melissa Bentrovato is embarking on an ambitious campaign to raise $12,000 for the Montreal Children’s Hospital.
From February 13 to February 18, various fundraisers will be held at schools and the week will conclude with the Night of Hearts 2012, a dinner-dance for 300 guests at Buffet Marina (4397, rue Denis-Papin) in St. Léonard.
For Melissa and her family, the Montreal Children’s Hospital holds a special place in their heart as the younger Bentrovato, Jessica, was a patient there as an infant. Diagnosed with a hole in her heart, she underwent successful open heart surgery at nine months old and today is a healthy and active 14 year old attending John Paul I Junior High School in St. Léonard. The youngest of the three Bentrovato girls, Melina, is in Grade 6 at Edward Murphy Elementary School in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve.
The money raised by Melissa over the course of her campaign will be donated directly to the Montreal Children’s Hospital to enable them to purchase three urgent care devices: A DINAMAP patient monitoring machine ($4,000); a Holter Seer Light Recorder ($4,500), a machine which evaluates ongoing cardiac conditions and gathers data for diagnosis and treatment; and an Arrhythmia Monitor ($4,000), a machine which is used to identify causes of irregular heart rhythms.
Specific dates and times of fundraisers to follow.
