MONTREAL, FEBRUARY 16, 2012 - Franco La Braca, a senior at Rosemount High School and a member of the school’s music program and Symphonic Winds Orchestra, has been selected to take part in the prestigious annual National Youth Band (NYB) experience, May 6-13 in Winnipeg.
Open to all music students across the country aged 16 to 21, La Braca, with the help of RHS Music Department Co-Chair Andrew Mangal, sent in a video audition. The NYB hosting committee then selected him to take part in the elite week of music.
“With nearly all of the NYB selected students being of university age, this is simply an incredible accomplishment for Franco and Rosemount’s music department,” said RHS Music Department Co-Chair Debbie Best. “Franco is an outstanding student and a gifted percussionist.”
La Braca’s fellow percussionist competition was comprised solely of university level students. Seldom are high school students selected for the NYB week. Students experience music workshops and practices, before performing for the general public and various schools and organizations later in the week.
Added Principal Demetra Droutsas: “Rosemount High School prides itself on its greatest strength; an elite music program. Franco is a shining example of the limitless possibilities that music provides. ”
