MONTREAL, APRIL 3, 2012 – On Thursday, April 12 the 32nd anniversary of the beginning of the Marathon of Hope, Eddy Nolan, the head caretaker at Roslyn Elementary School in Westmount will honour Terry Fox by running a marathon along Sherbrooke Street West in Montreal.
Nolan will begin his run at 9:30 a.m. at the corner of Westminster and Sherbrooke.
With a Terry Fox flag in hand, Nolan will run 13.1 miles to the east before turning around and completing the marathon. Roslyn graduates, who currently attend Royal West Academy in Montreal West, will lead a group of students from the English Montreal School Board to line Sherbrooke Street and cheer on Nolan.
In 2010, Nolan had honoured Terry Fox on April 12 by running a marathon in Montreal; however, a personal battle with cancer prevented him from repeating the feat in 2011. With his cancer currently in remission, Nolan will once again take to the streets.
Since 1980, Nolan has participated in every Terry Fox Run. Over the past 10 years, his leadership at Roslyn has been instrumental in the school efforts to raise over $210,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation.
“This is not a fundraiser,” said Nolan. “It is simply to honour Terry…Never in my life have I been so inspired by one individual.”
