MONTREAL, MAY 10, 2012 – Twenty-four schools in the English sector participated in the Ministry of Education, Leisure and Sports (MELS) Recognition Awards, an Action Plan on Reading in School initiative.
English Montreal School Board representatives turned in impressive performances at the regional level. Edward Murphy Elementary School's "Read to Me- I'll Read to You," spearheaded by teachers Nadia and Sandra Greco, won the overall grand prize. St. Gabriel, Hampstead and Royal Vale finished second in the elementary division, behind the guidance of teachers and pedagogical consultants Karima Tabbianneni, Sophie Christopoulos, Katherine Kiryakidis and Marie-Andrée Veilleux, with their project "Chanter pour lire, lire pour chanter." In third place in the secondary division, pedagogical consultants Nadia Bazinet, Roxanne Bérubé and Mylène Boudrault guided six schools - Nesbitt, Cedarcrest, Gardenview, Gerald McShane and John Grant.
All regional projects are submitted for the provincial-level awards. Edward Murphy Elementary School's "Read to Me- I'll Read to You," will be receiving an additional prize on May 23 at the provincial-level awards at the Grande Bibliothèque de Montréal.
