MONTREAL, JULY 5, 2012- With the vision of a green and environmental friendly community in mind, this year the English Montreal School Board allocated funds from the Green Plan budget in order to present grants, awards and prizes to their schools and centers.
The Green Awards and Recognition prizes are allocated to fund projects which are directly tied to the Green Plan policy throughout the school year. The purpose of the EMSB grants is to aid in the implementation and funding of future environmental initiatives undertaken from schools, centers and the Administration Building.
Throughout the 2011-2012 academic year, many of the schools and centers sent in submissions in order to qualify for the newly implemented EMSB Grant program. The projects were outstanding and overwhelming in number. James Lyng High School in St. Henri was presented with an EMSB Green Award of $1,000 and John Paul I Junior High School in St. Léonard received a $500 EMSB Green Recognition Prize.
The EMSB Green Grants for initiatives to be completed during the 2012-2013 school year were also presented with respect to the following three categories: Category OAK, grants from $3,000 to $5,000; Category MAPLE, grants from $1,000 to $2,999; and Category WILLOW, grants under $1,000.
