MONTREAL, AUGUSt 13. 2012 – The English Montreal School Board (EMSB) will proceed soon with a public call for tenders for six residential properties it owns.
At a recent meeting of the Council of Commissioners, it was agreed that the EMSB will follow the regulation respecting the norms, conditions and procedure for disposing of an immovable of a school board. Authorization has been granted from the Ministry of Education, Leisure and Sports (MELS) to sell the properties, which at one time in the life of former boards were used as caretaker residences.
The residences are located at: 107 4th Avenue in Montreal; 7920 Westbrooke and 81907 Edinburgh in Côte Saint-Luc; 355 Martlatt and 1730 St. Croix in St. Laurent; and 8255-8257 Stuart Avenue in Outremont. Certain operations have yet to be completed for two other properties, 93 Hallowell Avenue in Westmount and 4440 Draper Avenue in NDG, therefore they will be put up for public tender at a later date.
EMSB Chairman Angela Mancini explains that these homes cannot be sold in typical fashion. Rather, the real estate firm of NAI Commercial (www.naimontreal.ca) has been retained to market the properties and ensure advertisements will be placed in the appropriate media promoting their availability. Interested buyers will place bids. At the conclusion of the process, the highest bid will win for each.
The actual tendering process will occur at a date to be determined, notes Richard Sauvé of NAI Commercial.
Ms. Mancini notes that the EMSB is not in the real estate business and wishes to direct any proceeds from these sales towards present-day infrastructure.
