MONTREAL, SEPTEMBER 6, 2012 – A press conference will be held on Friday, Sept. 7 (11:30 a.m.) at the Lauren Hill Academy Junior Campus in St. Laurent (2355 Decelles) to announce the annual “Score with School” men’s university hockey game, featuring the CIS national champion McGill Redmen and the York Lions. The event is already a guaranteed success with the participation of 800 students from the English Montreal School Board (EMSB).
Former Montreal Canadiens forward Mathieu Darche, a native of St. Laurent, who captained the Redmen and is currently a member of the National Hockey League Players’ Association’s negotiating committee, will be on hand as well as McGill head coach Kelly Nobes and some members of the Redmen.
The event will be a CIS regular season game which will take place during school hours, on Friday, Nov. 2 at 10:30 a.m. at McGill’s McConnell Arena, located at 3883 University Street, behind Percival Molson Stadium. The “Score with School” program is coordinated by Rooths Sports and Martin Routhier, a former McGill team captain. In the weeks leading up to the game, McGill players will visit local schools to illustrate the importance of focusing on education and striving for a university degree.
The game will be treated as a pedagogical field trip and will mark the third straight year that the EMSB has participated in the program over the past several years with Rooths Sports. The Redmen are coming off an outstanding season in which they posting an overall record of 32-12-1 and captured their first-ever CIS University Cup championship.
