MONTREAL, OCTOBER 2, 2012 - Honoré Mercier Elementary Home & School Association in St. Léonard will be hosting the 68th Annual Quebec Federation of Home and School Associations Fall Parents’ Conference on Saturday, October 27, 2012 (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.). In response to the ongoing concerns of parents in regards to bullying issues and the effects they have on family and society, the theme of the QFHSA Fall Conference will be “Get Involved - Education Matters” with an emphasis on Understanding Bullying.
The keynote speaker will be Dr. Shaheen Shariff, Associate Professor, Department of Integrated Studies in Education, Faculty of Education, McGill University who will be speaking on : “Define the Line: Clarifying the blurred lines between Cyberbullying and Digital Citizenship”. A variety of workshops will also be offered from how to motivate your child to learn, the implications of Bill 56 (the new anti-bullying legislation) for parents and students, an exploration of the POP program in high school, and a lecture on the use of Technology in the Classroom to leadership workshops on fundraising, constitutions & by-laws, and more.
The conference is usually held for Home & School parents from across the province but non-members are always welcome. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Registration fees are $25.00 for Home and School members before October 19, $35 after October 19 and $35 for non-members. The registration fee covers the workshops and includes lunch.
Quebec Federation of Home and School Associations is a not for profit organization that promotes the involvement of parents, students, educators and the community at large in the advancement of learning and acts as a voice for parents.
