EMSB CALLS GREATER QUEBEC MOVEMENT’S ALLEGATIONS TOTALLY UNFOUNDED

MONTREAL, DECEMBER 13, 2001– The English Montreal School Board (EMSB) calls allegations by the Greater Quebec Movement that it discriminates against Catholics totally unfounded.

Dominic Spiridigliozzi, vice-chairman for the EMSB and commissioner for St. Leonard, say it is the Greater Quebec Movement which is attempting to play politics at the expense of students.

"The English Montreal School Board makes decisions based on the needs of all of its students and the system at large and not along Protestant-Catholic lines," stated Mr. Spiridigliozzi. "It is sad that a few dissenting voices are trying to seed conflict where none exists. We are proud of our heritage and where we come from, but we have moved on. We are now well on the road to building a Board which will serve the English community for many years to come."
