MONTREAL, NOVEMBER 14, 2012 – Royal Vale School in NDG captured first place in the third annual Just For Kids (JFK) Foundation G!EE High School Showdown on November 11 in the Eric MacLean S. J. Centre for the Performing Arts at Loyola Campus. A friendly song and dance competition was performed in front of 750 cheering “gleeks.”
Royal Vale finished ahead of Lindsay Place in Pointe Claire and ECS in Westmount. The other eight participating high schools included the EMSB’s Laurier Macdonald in St. Léonard, Royal West Academy in Montreal West and LaurenHill Academy in St. Laurent. Each “G!EE” team has been given a minimum fundraising objective of $1,000. A total of $100,000 was raised.
JFK was created in 1987 by a small group of parents who saw the need to raise funds to purchase urgently needed, state-of-the-art medical equipment for the Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH). Over the past 25 years JFK has grown into a group of approximately two hundred dedicated volunteers who continuously look for new and innovative ways to raise funds for this very important cause. To date, over eight million dollars has been raised for the many departments at The MCH including Cardiology, Haemodialysis, Emergency, Neurology, Paediatric Sleep Laboratory, and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.
As the new MCH comes to life at the Glen Campus, JFK’s Operation Suite Tomorrow campaign will focus over the course of the next three years on The Children’s current and future needs.
