MONTREAL, NOVEMBER 14, 2012 – “Inspired Teachers, Inspiring Students” is the theme for this year’s edition of the Spotlight on the Arts, the only event in Quebec, which caters to the needs of Visual Arts, Music, Dance, and Drama educators in the Anglophone sector.
In its fourth year, the annual event attracts teachers from all over the province for a day of learning, sharing and creating, Spotlight on the Arts is set to take place on Friday November 23 at the annual Quebec Provincial Association of Teachers conference at the Palais des Congres.
Spotlight on the Arts is the forum where the art world meets the classroom, as teachers, students, and artists work side by side. Participants will work side by side with students and the artist collective, EN MASSE for the MASSES, to paint a collaborative mural. Others will take part in creating choreography, explore musical composition and experiment with dramatic improvisation. In the afternoon, students will share a presentation of Spoken Word facilitated by acclaimed spoken word poet, Moe Clark. The Spotlight is a hands-on, effervescent on-the-spot Arts event.
Eric M. Scott and David R. Modler – a.k.a. The Journal Fodder Junkies – stand poised to deliver the keynote address. These unique artists/teachers will share their unique perspective on creative development in the classroom. Other planned activities include a gallery walk, an informative sharing session with IMAGO!, a Quebec Band Association round table, and workshops led by specialists in all four Arts domains.
“After thirty-five years in this profession...this met and surpassed my expectations”,said one participant about last year’s event.
The Spotlight on the Arts is organized yearly by MAD2, an organization composed of Arts consultants and advisors from the nine English School Boards with the participation of the non-profit foundation LEARN. Its goal is to increase awareness of the importance of the four Arts – Music, Art, Drama and Dance – as well as to foster expertise in Arts education. Its members believe that inspired Art teachers inspire students to reach new heights of self-expression and self-awareness, creating true life-long learners.
