|EMSB WELCOMES PARTNERSHIP WITH ITALIAN-CANADIAN COMMUNITY FOUNDATION|
MONTREAL, JANUARY 21, 2013 – The Italian-Community Foundation will present the English Montreal School Board with a donation on Wednesday, January 23 (11 a.m.) at Pierre de Coubertin Elementary School (4700 Lavoisier) in St. Léonard to assist pupils who study the Italian language.
Italian is one of the languages taught as part of the Programme de l’enseignement des langues d’origine (PELO),which aims to improve the students’ knowledge of their heritage language. Italian courses are offered during instructional time for four EMSB elementary schools offering the integrated program: Pierre de Coubertin, Dante, East Hill and General Vanier. PELO classes are also offered in other elementary schools, either during the lunch period or after school to students from Grades 1 to 6 .
Scheduled to speak will be Italian-Canadian Community Foundation President Carmine D’Argenio, Italy`s Consul General in Montreal Enrico Padula, EMSB Vice-Chairman Sylvia Lo Bianco and Franca Ciccarelli, a PELO teacher at Pierre de Coubertin.
