|CALIFORNIA-BASED CLINICAL AND SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST MAKES IMPORTANT PRESENTATION TO LOCAL STAFF MEMBERS|
MONTREAL, Febaury 1, 2013- Dr. Regalina Melrose, a California based clinical and school psychologist and popular international speaker, visited St. Monica Elementary School in N.D.G. recently. Her presentation entitled “Practical Strategies on How to Implement Self-Regulation in Schools” was given to staff members of St. Monica, as well as staff members from five other English Montreal School Board schools including: Elizabeth Ballantyne in Montreal West; St. Raphael in Ahuntsic; Hampstead; Coronation in Côte des Neiges and St. Gabriel in Pointe St. Charles.
The teachings of Dr. Melrose disseminate a clear message: educators need to understand the current research in neurochemistry as it pertains to a student’s ability to learn. As many students come to school either inadequately rested and/or in an excited state, learning becomes difficult. Individuals who attended the workshop received a simplified explanation of the neuro-anatomy (brain stem, mid-brain and neo-cortex) and how it can be implemented in order to aid in an internal balance between excitation and relaxation for students. Once this balance is reached, the student is ready to learn.
“We truly learned a lot from Dr. Melrose,” said St. Monica Principal Katherine Snow. “She truly is passionate about making sure that all students are given an equal chance to learn.”
